Tours to Sipán and Site Museum (Private).
Discover the fascinating Moche culture of the pre-Hispanic era in this private tour with a guide from Chiclayo. Visit the impressive archaeological complex of Huaca Rajada, with its enormous flat-topped pyramids, and explore the impressive Museum of the Royal Tombs of Sipán in the nearby town of Lambayeque, where numerous artifacts found in Huaca Rajada are exhibited.
After being picked up at the hotel and meeting your expert local guide, we will head east to reach the magnificent archaeological site of Huaca Rajada. The complex is formed by enormous flat-topped adobe pyramids, eroded by centuries of rain, wind and sun and excavated in 1987 by archaeologist Walter Alva. The excavation led to the discovery of fourteen different tombs, including that of the Lord of Sipán, considered one of the most impressive pre-colonial tombs in the Americas.
Many of the artifacts found here are on display at the magnificent Museum of the Royal Tombs of Sipán in the nearby town of Lambayeque. The museum was designed by Alva in the shape of the flat-topped pyramids of the Moche culture (which existed between the 1st and 7th centuries). But this is nothing compared to the absolute splendor of the objects exhibited within it. You will find more than 2000 artifacts made of solid gold, including bracelets, breastplates and jewelry.
All exhibits are original and have been meticulously cleaned and restored to the finest detail, restoring their lost glory. The Lord of Sipán, the main leader of the Moche culture and the most important governor of ancient Peru some 1700 years ago, is buried in this architectural jewel.
